Social Skills Groups for Children in Mississauga, Ontario

Making friends, joining conversations, and understanding social cues are important skills for every child. However, these abilities do not always develop naturally for everyone. At Bright Speech and Language Services, our Social Skills Groups in Mississauga provide a structured, engaging and supportive environment where children can learn and practice social communication.

Each child grows at their own pace. Our groups are designed to help children build confidence while developing meaningful connections with peers under the guidance of certified Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs).

Who Are These Groups For?

Our social skills groups are especially valuable for Mississauga children who:

  • Have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Experience speech and language delays that affect social interaction
  • Struggle with social-pragmatic communication skills
  • Feel anxious in group settings or have difficulty making friends
  • Need a supportive space to practice conversational turn-taking

Skills Taught in Our Mississauga Groups

  • Greeting peers and joining ongoing conversations
  • Turn-taking during conversation and play activities
  • Understanding body language, facial expressions and tone of voice
  • Resolving conflicts and problem-solving with peers
  • Developing empathy and perspective-taking
  • Participating in group games, role-play scenarios and real-life social activities

How Groups Work at Bright Speech Mississauga

Groups are organized based on age and communication level and are led by experienced Speech-Language Pathologists. Each group is intentionally kept small so every child receives individual attention and support during sessions.

Sessions may also include elements of our Community Tours program, where children practice real-world social interactions at local Mississauga locations such as libraries, community centres, and recreation spaces.

Many children participating in these groups also benefit from individual speech-language therapy in Mississauga and our speech-language parent coaching sessions to reinforce the communication skills they develop in group settings.
